Intro
In modern strategy tests, the selectable test period is a crucial parameter to verify whether a trading system is profitable over a long period. While decades ago, only minute-based chart data was enough to validate most trading strategies, nowadays, tick data is considered standard. Markets change, and so does how an automated trading system performs. Therefore, a simple 1-minute chart can no longer represent a market's behavior; instead, tick precise historical data is a must-have.
Fortunately, the MetaTrader 5 trading platform comes with an enormous, powerful integrated strategy tester with which the historical performance of an automated trading system can be simulated and evaluated by using accurate historical tick data. Sadly, this feature limits itself because most MetaTrader 5 providers only offer tick data for a short historical period - often not more than a few days or weeks.
An MT5 Tick Data subscription grants you access to an independent data source of tick precise data for up to 20 years into the past. The tick data is available in different spread variations and for many major and minor symbols.
Installation
The MT5 Tick Data can be installed with an executable installer, which you can download with the web-based downloads portal. For each symbol, an installer is available for download. The installer can import the MT5 Tick Data into a MetaTrader 5 instance of your choice. To access it, please subscribe and download one of the plans. Some browsers may warn and ask if you wish to keep EXE files. Please choose to keep them!
Upon completion of the download, you can initiate the installation. To accomplish this, please double click on the setup file. During the installation, a large amount of data will be copied; therefore, please take into account that the start of the installer and installation process may take up to 10 minutes.
Some users might encounter a Windows warning when executing an EXE file. This warning can be bypassed by clicking on More info and then selecting Run anyway. It is planned to resolve this issue soon. In the meantime, you can follow the workaround in the illustration below. Please proceed with the setup and follow the provided instructions.

Using and managing MT5 Tick Data
Use the tick data as a custom symbol within your MetaTrader 5 strategy tester. A custom symbol is a manually added symbol, usually utilized by an offline data source. In this case, the previously installed tick data.
With the strategy tester, you can select the custom symbol just like a regular one.
By selecting Every tick based on the natural tick as the data model, you can perform the most precise backtests possible!
