Installation

Download​

You can download the installer for the Custom Expert Advisor with the web-based downloads portal. If you still need to subscribe to a Custom Expert Advisor plan, you can find all available options here, including how to start a subscription. Please consider that some browsers throw a warning and question whether to keep EXE files. In this case, you want to do that. After the download, you will find the setup file in your download folder.

Start installer​

Next, please double click on the setup file to start the installation.

Some users might see a warning from Windows when trying to run an EXE file. This warning can be bypassed by clicking on More info and then choosing Run anyway. It is planned to resolve this issue soon; in the meantime you can use the provided workaround. Please proceed with the setup and follow the instructions presented.

The installer will first display the applications that will be installed. The Custom Expert Advisor is available for MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5, which will be indicated accordingly.

Select MetaTrader instance​

During installation, you will be prompted to choose the MetaTrader instances on your computer where you wish to install the Custom Expert Advisor. The installer will scan your computer for all available MetaTrader instances compatible with the Custom Expert Advisor. Select your desired installation targets and proceed by clicking Next. The Custom Expert Advisor can be installed in multiple MetaTrader instances simultaneously.

Your Custom Expert Advisor is now ready for use within the MetaTrader strategy tester and on live charts!

Discover application folder​

The Custom Expert Advisor utilizes multiple input and output folders for its configuration and features, such as automatically generating a trading journal. Two application folders are available: one for the live variant, used for configuring trading systems executed on live charts, and one for the tester variant, used for Custom Expert Advisors executed with the strategy tester.

You can access the application folders by entering the designated path into your Windows folder browser:

  • Tester Variant: %AppData%\MetaQuotes\Terminal\Common\Files\FEA Trading Tester Data\Custom Expert Advisor Tester 2.0
  • Live variant: %AppData%\MetaQuotes\Terminal\Common\Files\FEA Trading Live Data\<META_TRADER_INSTANCE_NAME>\Custom Expert Advisor Live 2.0

<META_TRADER_INSTANCE_NAME> shall be your MetaTrader instance name, for example, MetaTrader 4 IC Markets.

Alternatively, you can access these folders by opening the FEA Trading Live Data or FEA Trading Tester Data folder, which can be conveniently accessed via the desktop link or the link provided in the start menu and navigate through it.

Whenever this user manual refers to output or input files, please refer to these specific folders depending on which variant you use.

As you can see, the root folder also includes an uninstaller tool. If you no longer want to use the Custom Expert Advisor, you can use this tool to remove it. The uninstaller will remove all files related to the application.

Trading systems can be distinguished by utilizing separate profile folders. The selection of the profile folder can be configured when initiating the application.
